Mighty Eagle Band Directors
Rob Toups is Director of Bands and Fine Arts for the Canton Independent School District in Canton, Texas. He has been in this position since 1991. Mr. Toups is a member of ATSSB, TMEA, TBA, TMAA and Phi Beta Mu. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and has 21 years of experience in public school music. Under his direction Canton bands earn consistent Sweepstakes awards and have remained in the top 3 AAA bands in both State UIL marching and TMEA concert honor band since 1998. Mr. Toups is the recipient of the prestigious 2004-2005 Texas University Interscholastic League Sponsor Excellence award. His bands have performed in Europe, Canada, the United States Army Military Academy at West Point and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Canton High School Symphonic Winds were named the TMEA State AAA Honor Band in 2003. In addition, the CHS marching bands were named the three-time consecutive UIL Texas State Marching Champions in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Along with his duties with the Canton ISD, Mr. Toups served as the Association of Texas Small School Bands’ AAA representative to the State Board from 1998-2004, and is currently the President of the Association of Texas Small School Bands. He is also the Texas Music Adjudicators Association marching band Vice-President. Mr. Toups conducts, adjudicates and clinics throughout Texas and surrounding States. He has published articles in the Bandmasters Review, University Interscholastic Leaguer and the Southwestern Musician journal. In addition, he holds workshops on successful teaching techniques, student motivation and music education in rural school settings. He and his lovely wife Carolyn have three children, Leah, Lindsey and Mark.
Christopher McHenry serves as the director of percussion, including the writing and arrangement for the Eagle Marching Band’s percussion section. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. McHenry earned his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he studied under Kenneth Green. He is active as an adjudicator throughout Louisiana, and is a member of TMEA and the Percussive Arts Society.
